Share your years of experience, background, how you got started within your career, your biggest influence, and challenges you've faced.
I have been a makeup Artist for a little over four years now the journey has been very Complex for the most part there is ins and out in. Especially from my perspective jumping right in fresh out of highschool you go through a lot of trial and error when it comes to perfecting your craft to client exchange. & That's why I love what I do! The beauty industry has taught me so much more than just beauty. Kevin Luong, the most talented makeup artist based in LA has influenced a lot of my work. His art is absolutely amazing. He has came along way and is a respected name in this industry which takes hard work and dedication. It's a journey, it's a live experience, it's a door opening opportunity and has been an outlet for creativity. It has been a way for me to come out of my shell and enter more into a positive open space where there is individuality & i think that's the most important part in this industry.
As a makeup artist, I know you see tons of different looks you’d go about different or try to fix. What’s one big makeup mishap you see happen often and why do you think this happens?
No shade to the girls but I give grace to the beginner artist's mistakes a lot of times just being that everything cannot be taught, Some things you have to educate yourself on but i'm so tired of seeing the experienced girls doing makeup with no education! It’s a lot that goes into the actual Makeup application before you even apply Makeup and I think has a lot to do with people not getting the necessary education needed to prevent errors and they have to self educate so for a short & cute answer to some of these errors are i see very often, Color Theory & Product Education.
Share your number one tip for amazing makeup
My Number One tip for an amazing makeup application is a great skin care routine. Have a great exfoliator, a great cleanser and always a great moisturizer.
What’s your take on the recurring beauty trends and “new” styles of makeup such as clean girl and latte makeup that’s made its way to social media?
I love all the new and upcoming trends of makeup. It just shows how diverse this industry really is! I'm all for The natural clean look and the ‘celebrity’ Look there is a lane for every girl depending on what you like and what you feel comfortable in which I love because everybody isnt the same.
With that being said, beginners in makeup seem to come across many different “new” trends which may confuse them. What would be your advice to them as they enter their makeup journey?
My advice is 1. Do what feels natural to you and 2. Master one style before you venture off to catching up with trending looks! There can be many pros and cons with following trends you might not get to target the audience meant for you because the style of makeup you are doing isn't consistent. Finding your OWN personal or unique style is what really sets you apart in this industry & one thing about trends they come and they go!
How has your makeup style evolved over the years and what influenced this change?
In the beginning of my Career i was one to not necessarily follow trends but I had a few makeup artists I was following from Different cities and their work was absolutely amazing, of course some of Houston, Atlanta & California. I would try to replicate looks they have done and overtime I take a little bit from her, a little information from her, a certain technique from him until I developed my own style and a certain way of doing things, basically learning as I go.
Looking back, what’s one thing you know now, that you wish you knew or would have had in your first stages of learning makeup?
One thing that I wish I would've known in my first stages of learning makeup would be that I didn't need to splurge on High end products. I did that in the beginning and I should've just found what worked for me in the beginning and ventured off slowly from there when I felt like I could receive a different result if I expanded my kit. Now years later I have a box of high end products that I once found I didn't like or really work for me and haven't used them since.
What’s your 3 go to makeup products that you cannot live without?
Three Products I can't live without is my One size translucent powder. Two faced products, anything like the skin care to makeup to their brow kits, its A1! Last but not least, my elf brow gel really is my holy grail. It's definitely a multi purpose product for me.
What are a few products on your bucket list?
I only have one product on my bucket list that I want to start using. It is the Charlotte Tilbury magic serum. I have heard and seen great things about the serum and I think I'm more than convinced to give her my coin!
What’s next for FlawlesslyKC? Tell us about your classes, services, and all that you offer
FlawlesslyKc has a few things planned for the upcoming new year, especially this year. I really took a lot of time educating myself on a few things that will help me execute a few of my upcoming projects.
As far as classes I am continuing doing my MUA Enhancement Training for beginner and experienced Makeup artists where I do share a lot of tricks and a few tips for elevating your business and your mindset in the Beauty industry itself. I get a lot of feedback from my Trainings and alot of my fellow artists find them helpful and they are able to implement some of my suggestions into their business which I am very happy about!
